Stomach pain, headache, brain fog, feel sick after squash

So I had some Kambocha squash last night and the night before, totaling up to about 1 small squash over the 2 days. Today I feel terrible. I eat VLC, but I know the squash in relatively low carb to the other ones out there. But I do tend to get this reaction from having certain types of carbs combined with fats. Can someone help me out and explain what's going on. Did I give my body too many carbs?

Usually for the rest of the day and until about lunch the next day. And I meant that I've eaten fruit or other squashes or sweet potatoes and not had this effect.

That sounds like fructose malabsorption to me. Pre Paleo you wouldn't notice it too much, but since a lot of Paleo's safe carbs are full of fructose and fructans, you'd start feeling it if you really were fructose intolerant. Squash, sweet potatoes and yams contain more fructans and polyols than glucose and if you're not absorbing it, it just sits there and ferments. This is toxic and besides giving you diarrhea the same or the next day, it can definitely give headaches, brain fog and such. Try other, higher glucose-to-fructose-ratio starches like white potato, plantains, chestnuts or cassave and within a few days, if you stick to it, you should feel the difference. Google LOW FODMAPS to know more Take care

Did you mean "kabocha"?

Two things that stand out:

You ate it the first night and presumably tolerated it fine.

You are eating half a (small) squash at a time, which doesn't sound like a VLC diet. How's your blood glucose?

I think you need to do more self experimentation to find out if the squash is really the culprit.

Good luck!

I, too, have felt uncomfortable after eating a whole kombocha over two days. I get the brain fog and discomfort in my stomach. I haven't noticed this with other carbs. I know that's no help to you, but at least you're not alone!
