Soaking Grains: Do you need to rinse buckwheat after soaking??

I am trying to add a simple, shelf-stable carb to my diet as I am very active and trying to keep at the 150g-200g threshold (it's where I feel best). I already eat a good amount of sweet potatoes and am planning on adding organic raw buckwheat to my post-workout meal.

QUESTION: Once I soak the buckwheat to remove some phytic acid, do I need to then drain them to get the full benefit? For example...soaking in Almond Milk over night and eating it after workout in the morning...anything wrong with this?

I realize that buckwheat is not technically Paleo but I am comfortable with adding it into my diet. This may be a dumb question but to some but any help is apprecaited. Thanks!

Ya this is kind of my n=1 experiment...my body typically does well with most foods so I'm hoping for the best

I thought you only had to soak buckwheat for 15 minutes because it soaks up water so quickly. Then you can sprout it afterwards. Here's where I got that info if you're curious. http://www.therawchef.com/how-to-sprout-buckwheat/

On the rare occasions which I cook with buckwheat, it is as flour. I mix it with kefir in the evening, leave overnight, by which time it is beautifully fermented and risen, then add eggs etc to make pancakes. Loads of recipes if you google gluten free buckwheat pancakes (or crepes).

The phytates in grains aren't the problem- the problem is our inability to digest them and their antinutrient properties because of that. Soaking grains with an acid breaks them down for easier digestion, so no, you don't have to rinse- they're already broken down and largely taken care of. However, when I soak *grains* (seeds?), nuts, etc, I end up rinsing them a few times when I change the water because I prefer to soak them for a few days and feel OCD about letting them sit in tepid water for too long.

I would recommend soaking in something other than almond milk, however. You need an acidic agent, like whey, cultured yogurt, lemon, sea salt, ACV, etc. I've never heard of soaking in almond milk to break down phytic acids.

Buckwheat is actually a fruit seed that is related to rhubarb and sorrel. It's on my list of paleo approved foods as my N=1 experience is absolutely no gastric upset (bloating, gas, weight gain), after eating it. I only use buckwheat flour though, as I don't like the taste of groats, so let's see if someone else has an answer about the soaking.
