I do IF and recently tried to do VLC as well (VLCIF...acronym overload...) however that didn't work at all. I've read Richards post about food reward/palatability and a lot of it resonated with me.
If I have fruit/sweet potato/chocolate throughout my eating window I notice I eat less. And I feel good. If I go VLC I eat a lot in an effort to satiate myself and yet still cave to cravings (usually a chocolate binge ugh). That's just wrong...
I'm not trying to lose 60 pounds, more like 5. "The last bit of bodyfat"
Is it better for me to abandon carbphobia, enjoy sweeter foods and let my body/mind relax into seamlessly lower calorie diet?

LC (about 50gm a day or less) worked for me when I was about 15-20lbs overweight. Since I had success and saw results, I decided "If a little worked, more will work better" and dropped even more carbs. I hit a plateau (ball park 15%bf?) and stayed there long enough to finally realize I needed to switch it up. Since then, I have added anywhere from 250 - 400 gm carbs a day and hven't stopped leaning out since. That coupled with a larger emphasis on sleep and recovery, has shown me my best results to date. This is all in addition to losing my ability to do cardio, due to a bum knee.
If you're truly just looking to finish leaning out, embrace the carbs, rest, recover.

The carbs don't matter.. the calories do. Eat whatever is going to prevent you from bingeing and subsequently exceeding your calories for the day.

I'm making the transition from VLC Paleo to a more moderate approach and I am feeling GREAT. I've definitely gotten leaner and I'm really enjoying the sweet potatoes and berries (with some bananas here and there). I've noticed that if I OD on the fruit though, I'll crave sugar. Last night for example, I had an extra large banana and a bowl of strawberries PWO after having a large sweet potato and a banana pre-workout. At night, I really really wanted some Girl Scout Cookies. Just go easy on the fruit, and I think you'll do fine with more carbs. I was also afraid of them for a long time (oh noes, I can't have the sweet potato cuz it'll make me fat!!!) but now that I'm reintroducing them into my diet, I enjoy my meals more.
