In the following thread discussing hyper palatability it was mentioned that carbs are used to make fats not acquired through diet (potentially leading to carb cravings).
I did some searching online but could not seem to find a reliable (scientific) source talking about this. Does anyone know of any? I find this very interesting because SO and I have been experimenting with macros lately and have found that lowering fat has caused increased carb cravings. Correlation does not in any way equal causation but it does bring up some interesting questions and I would like to know more about about the science behind it all.

Don't really know about if low fat meals may fire up carb cravings but that carbs are used to make fat, that's pretty accepted and the mechanisms behind this are well known. This is why people get fat actually, high blood sugar promotes a high insulin spike, and insulin takes that blood sugar that cannot be used to fuel activity (because of the excess) and then stores it as fat.

Also, as for food cravings and the hyper-palatable food stuff, maybe the real culprit may lay in the fructose used to engineer such foods. Fructose seems to work in the opposite way that glucose does, promoting hunger instead of triggering a satiation signal. See this other link for a possible explanation on this:
