Have you seen the movie "50/50", starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt?
I saw it a couple weeks ago, and it's pretty good. Afterwards, I googled the type of cancer the character has, and found a few articles about a girl with cancer that asked Mr. Gordon-Levitt out for coffee in the form of a youtube video.
It turns out she has a blog about her cancer, which is well-written. Also, she just went vegan. So I sent her an email complimenting her writing style, and asked her how her vegan diet was going, saying that I was interested because I'm a nutrition PhD student.
But that's not the only reason I'm interested. Rather, like most of you, I wonder if she might be better off with a different way of eating. Like maybe...paleo? :) You never wanna spring the "paleo" word too soon, you know?
So she emailed me back today, and asked me what specifically my thoughts were about diet and cancer. I can browse paleohacks for links, consult the writings of Paul Jaminet, etc. But what are the 3-4 best things I can say, and is there a best and most understandable link I can send her? She has pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. If you know anything specifically about this fairly rare cancer, that would be even better. I'm looking to say something more convincing than just "cancer eats sugar!!! vegan is bad!!!".
