bullet proof coffee not working

Answered on August 19, 2014

I started drinking bullet proof coffee yesterday. I really like it. I wasnt hungery all day & had a ton of enery even after running 4 mile pushing a jogging stroller. Today I had some and the total opposite happen. Was hungery, no energy. Made some more and it didnt help. Was wondering what I was doing wrong ? I make it with a cup of coffee, 1TBS of ghee & 1 TBS coconut and blend it.

No, it isn't. Animal fat is stored in the animal fat cells and I, personally just don't fucking chew enough to puncture all of them. Seriously, can you be more of an idiot?

Did you eat anything else yesterday? If not, or if you ate only a little, this would cause you to be hungry today.

I agree with you. I've actually done as much as 3 TBSP of butter, 2 TBSP of MCT Oil and 2 egg yolks into about 24 oz. As you mentioned, the caloric content there is over 600 kcal. For a very active individual and someone efficient at using fat, or for someone wanting a huge bolus of fat to get them through an entire morning, fine. I think that some have taken the BPC idea and simply made it their "start of the day" beverage and still resume a normal 3+ meals a day after that. Inherently, it's not bad depending on your goals and activity, but not something I'd recommend daily for fat loss.

Good job that it's only bullet proof coffee, and not a bullet proof jacket.

Does Bullet-proof coffee impair ones ability to spell?

I wouldn't consume the BPC with fruit if those were your goals. I do think for fat loss you could benefit from the MCT's, but I wouldn't go crazy on it. While very tasty and offering many benefits, BPC is lacking in nutrient-density as compared to other choices.

All fat is "drank" because it's melted when it touches our mouth.

BPC is delicious. I drink it daily. I've consumed it twice a day. With that said, it's not magic. It's a very tasty, unique and somewhat beneficial to get a caffeine boost along with quality fats and energy from both the caffeine and MCT's. Again though, it isn't some magic formula. I tend to feel sharper, more satiated and overall improved cognitive function, but that's an N=1 thing. Many people notice the same thing from simply eating breakfast or just drink coffee.

As I say in many posts, it depends on your goals. If you're looking to lose fat, BPC isn't something I'd recommend. If you're trying to "extend a fast", BPC with fruit or protein defeats the entire purpose. I sometimes make it with blended egg whites, which gives a very creamy and foamy texture. I do this because of texture and taste...I'm not trying to extend a fasted stated as the 4-6 egg whites (20 grams of protein or more) are going to interrupt that.

Dave Asprey's initial idea of BPC went along with his idea of Bulletproof Fasting. This still requires no carbs or protein no matter how many MCT's you're getting.

Just a thought but 600 calories of fat....600 calories of food. Either way you are eating 600 calories. Maybe drinking calories isn't precisely an ancestral norm....

On my bp coffee mornings, I dont usually eat anything until im hungry around 1pm or so. My guess is the fruit. If I eat fruit early in the day, I tend to be hungrier in general on those days than if I had bacon or eggs. Just my personal observations...

Did you get enough sleep last night? Did you eat anything at all when you drank it the other day or today? What did you eat yesterday? Did you have more stress today than yesterday? Lots of factors could be at play here.

Coconut products are used to be fed to pigs, which makes them more hungry, eat more and grow faster. This goes the same for most of us. So, try to leave out the coconut products, and see if it changes your appetite.

BPC doesn't work for me either. I was making it with organic butter (probably not grassfed) and organic coconut oil. I was experimenting with different amounts of each but every time it just left me hungry within 2 or 3 hours. I feel more satiated if I drink coffee with cream.

My experience with BPC has been incredibly positive. It serves as my breakfast and I'm typically not hungry until late afternoon/early evening. The fruit would definitely be counterproductive to utilizing the fat as fuel and will lead to increased hunger.

1 tbsp ghee and 1 tbsp coconut oil, isn't really much fat, I use 4tbsp butter and 3 tbsp MCT oil in 20 oz coffee. The effect does vary a bit from day to day in terms of energy, but this never makes me hungry. In fact I only eat solid food in one meal at dinner.

Try more fat. MCT oil is also more potent that coconut oil in terms of MCT content.

Butter actually has a good amount of vitamin a, some d and k2 and some omega 3s so it's not completely devoid of nutrition. 700 calories though. Works for me.

I do eat a piece of fruit with it. Yesterday was a stressful day. Maybe excising made me more hungry today. I also will ran 4.5.miles & strenghtthe trained today. I will keep try it. Plus its pretty good. :)
