Using OTC mouth guard, now I'm sleeping better?

I finally chomped through my comfy, custom-made night guard. Luckily I had a spare boil & bite Dentek guard as a back up. Even though it's bulkier and makes me drool a bit, I've noticed that I'm sleeping much better at night. I'm back to having vivid dreams in my REM sleep stages, and I don't wake up feeling as groggy.

Why is this? I'm sure I'm still clenching at night. Could the added cushioning of the boil & bite guard be preventing full clenching?

I think my custom guard was causing my teeth to shift and have an even worse bite than before. Even though they adjusted it to make my lower teeth bite across it evenly, when I grind at night it's all at the back so I need extra padding over my molars.

Not as concerned as grinding my teeth down to nubs.

Interesting. Anyone concerned about sucking on a warm lump of plastic for 9 hrs?

I have the same issue, and I've gnawed my way through plenty of mouthguards. I've noticed that I sleep better when I have a new guard, no matter what kind it is, and I also wake up with less headaches. It probably has something to do with how well the mouthguard keeps your jaw in place, and prevents it from moving around. I stopped using the ones you get from the dentist because they're expensive as hell, and I can get the same effect by boiling a new one every few weeks.
