What do you eat for IF breakfasts?

Answered on August 19, 2014

What are some suggestions for intermittent fast breakfasts? PHD shows a picture of coffee and creme but I don't drink coffee. It also mentions non-starch veggies. Protein is off limits as well. Here's what I've come up with:

  • Guacamole w/cabbage chips
  • Celery and nut butter
  • Roasted veggies (probably broccoli and cauliflower)
  • Kim Chi

Or push your breakfast back 1 hour per week until it's lunch. This ain't rocket science...

freeze some 1tbsp servings of coconut oil, maybe some coconut milk cut with chai tea or so. The purpose of IF is to limit food intake to an 8hr window, but fat with breakfast helps stave off hunger. if you can't skip breakfast yet without not feeling hunger, maybe consider minimalizing breakfast and titrate down to lower breakfast calories first.

If I were to pick a food to eat during a regular feed day I would go with protein and fats. I find for myself n=1, that I run better and I'm more alert in a higher fat system with moderate protein and low to mod carbs depending on activity level. Ketogenic if you will

You mean the breakfast you eat to break the fast? I'm think a breakfast during a fast would be an empty plate...

Yes. I thought the idea was to nourish while depriving pathogens and cancer cells of their primary energy sources. Fasting altogether also impacts the health cells. I'm guessing both probably modulate the immune system in different ways but my question was referring to the days that I'll be eating breakfast. Days where I'm naturally not that hungry I'll just skip it.

assuming that breakfast is not within your eating window, then you should really just stick stick to water. are you after some other "fasting" versions (cheats) to make things easier/less stressful. ie. fibre allowed, short fats allowed (mct, coconut, palm kernel), protein sparing etc....

IF mean fast. Just skip it man. Don't make this more complicated than it has to be. Take bcaas if you want with water, drink tea or coffee, but as far as food just don't eat.

Fasting by definition is not eating. Sorry to repeat this, but it bears repeating.

Read stuff from Eat, Stop, Eat, Warrior Diet, leangains.com, etc. etc. on this. You can not eat for 3 days before there is even the tiniest concern about your body scavenging useful tissue. If you are overweight at all, its probably more like a week.

And if you don't eat, guess what? Your body learns not to be hungry. And part of the process for IF and fasting in general is to give your digestive tract a rest. And processing fibrous veggies is not easy on your digestive tract (in spite of what the vegan mafia would have you believe).

I have water, iced tea (plain), black coffee, and nothing else.

I did a google search for you on fasting images. Here is what I came up with:

what-do-you-eat-for-if-breakfasts?

what-do-you-eat-for-if-breakfasts?

what-do-you-eat-for-if-breakfasts?

Are you spotting a common theme here???

In PHD it is mentioned that a fat only breakfast is one way to aproach an otherwise 8 hour feeding window. Keep protein and carbs in the 8 hour window with fat outside the window.

It is funny because we now have at least four groups:

Fasting: Water PHD: Fat breakfast Dr. K: Protein Others: Honey and rice cake.

I am thinking that egg yolks might satsify the PHD portion. However in the book this is optional for sure.

I think that the PHD utilized a protein fast in order to trigger autophagy.

So leafy greens (consisting of mostly soluble fiber, which is converted in fat through bacteria) and short/medium-chain fats are allowed to appease hunger and speed up the breakdown of ketone bodies while still triggering autophagy.

Last week in An Anti-Cancer Diet (Sep 28, 2011), I recommended that cancer patients eat 400 to 600 carb calories per day, but combine it with a program of daily intermittent fasting plus longer “ketogenic fasts” and periods of ketogenic dieting or low-protein dieting to promote autophagy.
