"The Paleo Answer"

Answered on August 19, 2014

Has anyone read Dr. Cordain's new book "The Paleo Answer"? I was wondering what you thought of it and how it differs from the first.

It's a fact that publishers get the last word about titles and subtitles. They listen to authors but publishers understand that titles and subtitles are the main visuals of interest to potential buyers. Jacket copy also written by publishers, sometimes to the dismay of authors.

Wisper, in the beginning of the podcast he does give an impression that, when compared to his lastest book, he had total freedom with this one although the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" is always relevant.

First of all, I doubt it was Cordain's idea to put the 7 days blurb in there - most likely the publisher's marketing dept to cater to the lowest common (dieter) denominator. Secondly, Robb Wolf is Cordain's protege, so it's no shock he's endorsing Cordain. Thirdly, ALL blogosphers are an incestuous circle of references, links and recommendations, so praising a book is more of a way to gain acceptance, clicks and money for yourself, rather than (necessarily) an actual endorsement.

Maybe it has a refund clause if things don't work after seven days :-)

Don't know but after hearing him on the podcast I do actually want to see the book. Although I think the answer is silly considering Paleo Solution. Same title essentially. But I do like listening to Cordain and he does sound like he might come up with a book worth reading, even after all these years of essentially the same ideas: don't eat grains, legumes, and dairy.

The full title is The Paleo Answer: 7 Days to Lose Weight, Feel Great, Stay Young. 7 days to reach all that? Really? I mean, really?

Paleo has jumped the shark.

At least we can say we were here before paleo was turned into yet another diet fad.

What if Cordain's "7 days" represent a template of diet and exercise choices that can be followed for one week, and then repeated, so that the introductory 7-day model broadens out into a Life. Why would that be such a nightmare, especially for all the people who ask, "How can I get started?" I've not read the book, hence these questions are couched on the premise that Cordain is very likely not pitching some simplistic promise of "life transformation in one week" or whatever. For one thing, he's too smart to be that dumb. Likewise Robb Wolf, endorser of Cordain's latest.

Basically, added all of the stuff that the publisher was weary about back in the early 2000's. Allowed for WAAAAAY more references, cites, data sources. I still like Paleo Solution more, but it's not a terrible read by any means.

I have not read his book but have heard a lecture by him.

"Loren Cordain - Origins and Evolution of the Western Diet: Health Implications for the 21st Century."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dw1MuD9EP4&list=LL9FO6QJ68X1cSgvGHSZ162Q&index=1&feature=plpp_video

Many things about Paleo makes even more sense after I heard it.
