Hunter/Gatherer Book Recommendations

I just finished reading The Old Way, and it's amazing. The auther spent years living with the Bushmen in the 1950s -- the book is an excellent first-hand account of their ways.

I'm looking for similar books, and am particularly interested in first-hand accounts. Thanks!

I think the questioner is looking for books specifically studying H/G cultures.

I was obsessed with this book as a girl. I was an anthropology geek back then:

My favorite is Make Prayers To The Raven, which is about the arctic Koyukon in Alaska. I also like Singing The Turtles To The Sea, which is about Seri Indians. If I read any more good ones, I'll add them to the reading list on my site.

Anything by Hugh Brody. Maps and Dreams is a great book about modern hunter-gatherers in Alberta, and he has a book specifically about hunter gatherers in general, Eden something.

Haven't read this one yet, "Original Wisdom: Stories of an Ancient Way of Knowing" . Author Robert Wolff is a social psychologist who grew up with indigenous people in Indonesia, and then studied tribal cultures in Suriname and the Pacific Islands - may be useful?

I heard Helena Norberg-Hodge discuss her book "Ancient Futures: Learning from the Ladakh" over a decade ago - she lived with the Himalayan Ladakh Buddhist indigenous people for some time I recall. May also be worth taking a look at?

Nutrition and Physical Degeneration has fascinating descriptions of a wide variety of indigenous or isolated people. And it is the original paleo diet book! Almost. Of course, it does not have the depth of description of individual cultures that the other books have.

I can reccomend the books of Helge Ingstad . example:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2459839.The_Apache_Indians.

Helge Ingstad is a norwegian national hero who lived as a hunter in north of canada for several years. I get a lot of inspiration from his books.
