Are Marrow bones supposed to smell a little weird?

Or did I leave them in the fridge too long? I think I thawed them 5 days ago, I think. They're roasting now.

Well if the dog wants them:). It sounds like the fat is rancid.

It's really strange- They smelled slightly 'fishy'. I ended up giving them away to someone with dogs.

So I should chuck them? Or can I still make soup? Neighbor's dog?

If they smell anything let less than appetizing, toss them...dogs' stomachs can handle older meat than ours, so that's an option.

Yes, marrow smells different from meat--fattier, I would say--but when it's going bad it will smell just like bad meat. Do not eat.

Always do a sniff test before you cook something, especially after you've thawed out frozen meat. Sometimes it takes so long to thaw out the meat in the fridge, that the outer portion of it is starting to go bad while the center is still frozen! That's why I try to thaw meat quickly, in a tub of tap water, instead of doing it the longer way.

I don't trust refrigerators.

Its too long, marrow goes bad very fast. I sometimes roast them frozen, when you adjust cooking times they roast almost as well as thawed.
