Getting a metametrix stool test without a doctor's note/ Access Labs
Created October 23, 2012 at 9:43 PM
Hi All,
I can't find a doctor in my area who does Metametrix stool testing.
This site: http://www.accesalabs.com/metametrix
says that you don't need a doctor and can order through them? Whereas the metametrix site for some reason says you do need to find a doctor. Is accessalabs legit or has anyone here tried this kind of thing? I would love if I could get the test and results and then consult with a doctor online, rather than having to futz around trying to find a doctor and explain paleo/gut dysbiosis and things like this.

Accesa Labs is legit. They are affiliated with a walk-in clinic in Los Angeles www.accesahealth.com. They have their own doctors that place the order for you. You can order on-line and the kit is shipped to you with easy to follow instructions. Also, REORDER20 saves you $20.
thank you Matt!
Elf27, any luck? Same situation here, and wondering how it went for you. RS
I ordered it and I received it. I was confused because the patient form you fill out asks for a doctor's name and I didn't have one to put. I sent several emails about this and got no response, so I canceled the test,
but yes, the coupon code worked, and personal opinion: I think you need to find a doctor who's willing to work through your issues with you as well for this to be worth your time and money.
from all the sites I scoured, (for example, look at the example result on the metametrix site) you need someone familiar with Metametrix testing to analyze your test results! you can order it through accessalabs unless you live in certain states. From accessalabs: "*Due to various regulations, this service is not available in MA, MD, NJ, NY, or RI."

Renee, do you know how you can go about finding a doctor who could interpret the results? Would a gastroenterologist, or probably you would stick to a naturopath? I had a colonoscopy and endoscopy last year when I was severely anemic (hemoglobin 6.4), got put on iron horse pills + folic acid+ B12 (Corvite), and then started experiencing problems. I think I had leaky gut and low calorie intake, but None of my doctors said that could be a factor. So I'm trying to figure out for myself. Thanks!

Augusta GA. When I fill out the form to find a doctor via the metametrix site, the only doctors they can can find are ~1.5 - 2 hours away - atlanta or columbia, SC. Columbia, which is closer, has busier doctors. Plus, then I would have to go for an initial appointment, explain why I would want the testing done, get the testing done, and then come back to interpret the results OR get referred to another doctor to interpret the results. It seems easier to me if I can get the test, see if there's anything to interpret, and possibly consult with someone, even online.

Naturopaths are really keen on ordering tests like these. You should contact one. What's your area?
