Blood tests and "bio-actionable" markers

I had a baseline blood panel done by my physician prior to starting the paleo diet 4 months ago. I am planning to have more blood work done soon and I have read about a few online startups that offer affordable blood panels and nutritional recommendations based on your results. The companies are:

  1. Inside Tracker http://www.insidetracker.com/
  2. Talking20 http://www.indiegogo.com/talking20
  3. WellnessFx http://www.wellnessfx.com/

Has anyone tried these companies?

Jeez, what's next, microbiome testing?

Couldn't I start a company tomorrow scanning your gut flora and providing actionable results?

In principle I'm not down on any of this; genome, microbiome, blood markers etc. Imagine how much of this will be routine in a hundred years. As far as right now, who's determining what's actionable?

  • what's actionable if they find high LDL?
  • isn't the entire diet designed to reduce inflammation?
  • are these labs and tests vetted? (rhetorical)
  • can't you get most of this through your doctor?

I have no doubt you can now go out and buy a lot of data, I'm just a little skeptical of the value and actionability.

I purchased several test kits from Talking20 back in October. Last time I heard from them was in late December, when they told me that my tests were their "highest priority" and they'd have results soon. I understand that they're a new startup and there will be an unpredictable wait before they're fully up and running, but don't give them your money if getting your results is important to you.
