Wondered if there is anyone from the UK who has had any blood tests done? Is this something I could do through my NHS GP or would this be done privately?

My doctor has been reluctant to give me anything other than basic checks. I am considering the following (private) company to do a check at my next big birthday:

I've had loads of bloods done by my GP, to try and work out my digestive problems and amenorrhea (now ok). I've had full blood count including all iron counts, coeliac screen, cholesterol and trigs, liver profile, kidney profile, hormone profile, thyroid. I'm pretty sure if you go to your GP with a health problem they will recommend the correct bloods, and if there's nothing wrong with you, be glad:) Make sure if you get any bloods you ask the GP for a print out of the results with the lab ranges because they can interpret them differently than a scientist or educated lay person. For example, when I was in hospital last september (and had been vegan for a year) my cholesterol was 2.33 and when my GP did it the other week, it was 5.9. An improvement in my books, but she thought I must be living off McDonalds. I told her I ate moderate amounts of organic butter and eggs but no crappy trans fats and believed that was healthier than the Benecol she was recommending!

I complained of not being able to shed extra weight and hinted at my thyroid. I was given a blood test for thyroid and kidneys right away. It actually came back with thyroid antibodies, which means I need to have these test every 6-12 months now (which I wasn't told by my GP).
