How do I fix my terrible bloating by tonight?

Hi, I'm not on paleo to lose weight, mostly just to be healthy. Anyway today I had a major craving for potato chips, so I had some. Lay's Barbeque. I realized after eating them that they had gluten in them. I'm not Celiac, but gluten always bloats me which is why I chose paleo in the first place (because there is no gluten in this diet). I was SO annoyed. For breakfast I had fruit and for lunch I had chicken and broccoli (my office ordered chinese- i requested light on the sauce, no MSG).

Anyway, I am super bloated and gassy now, probably a combo of the chinese food and chips. What are some ideas for reducing the bloat? I could have coffee, to speed up the digestive process...I could drink lots of water...I could eat an apple or some fruit...any ideas? I am going out tonight and do not want to be bloated. Luckily I still have about 5 hours.

Broccoli can be quite gassy. Just FYI.

Yes, I've used ginger before. Didn't know that about cherries :) Unfortunately I'm having friends over for dinner tomorrow so I don't think I can fast. Last time I fasted I was such a grump!

No problem! Gluten-free soy sauce is also labeled as tamari, and is fermented with only soy and without wheat.

Unfortunately I can't give you a good answer on the caffeine. I have always avoided caffeine to an extent because it makes me very jittery. Hopefully someone else can chime in on whether or not it would help with the bloating.

Also please no scolding- since I am not trying to lose weight I have a tendency to subscribe to the 20-80 rule more often than those who are. I seriously regret those chips though.

Enema is your answer, it will relieve the bloating in a big way, there are probably some colonic irrigation places where you live, hit them up, let them tube your butt and that gas will be history.

Tell them to turn the nozzle to "Eleven," whoa nelly will that take care of the gas and anything else you have up your butt, it's like the nuclear war of colonic irrigation, when they turn the nozzle up to Eleven it is like the allies storming the beach at Normandy, it is historic, gas is a distant memory.

when i'm bloated, going for a run always seems to get things moving and make the toots come out.

Squatting, certain yoga poses (google them), abdominal massage (clockwise) and drinking hot liquids can all help move gas.

Also, just a heads-up, soy sauce contains gluten. If your sauce on the chinese food had soy sauce in it, that might be aggravating your symptoms.

Ironically there is a Lay's Potato Chip ad on the side of my screen.

I read that the best way to alleviate symptoms after a cheat day or cheat period is to fast. That doesn't help tonight, but in the future you can fast for most of the day after!

I hear that cherries also help to speed digestion along, and also ginger!

Well, this question brings back memories of my pre-gluten-free days (I don't have celiac either - just severe gluten sensitivity). I was constantly getting bloated and then stressed out about having to get dressed up and go out. I eventually developed a simple (and for me very effective) system for managing it in this situation: I drank tons of water in a short period of time. I think I used to try to drink like four glasses in an hour. It used to work quite well for me. Good luck!
