Pizza, Dorito's, hot wings, cocktail sausages in bbq sauce, White Castles, scotch and cigars.

I don't think Grok went on a binge like that.

How far back does falling off the wagon really set you? I have only been eating paleo for only about 2 weeks, and feeling great. I am not looking forward to the "food hangover" today.

Unfortunately these guys are a bunch of Nancy's who play dealers choice, so we end up playing Chase the Queen or Black Mariah (with low hole card split pot) or "Kenosha Cheese Porn" instead of straight up poker. Hard to concentrate like that.

There are definitely options I can use to bring more paleo friendly treats, as long as I have more than 24 hours notice like I did this time.

I was not on autopilot. I knew every bite was off paleo.

Don't worry about it. Learn from it to help you avoid/minimize binges in the future.

In terms of weight loss, it shouldn't set you back much at all. Most of any weight that you gain would be water retention anyway.

In terms of gut health, it may set you back. Just eat clean and give yourself time to heal.

Personally I like playing poker, I think it is a friendly game and that is why I often play with my friends on weekends.

Just yesterday I turned down a Poker night with the guys because my health is now more important to me than a night of eating and drinking and inhaling GARBAGE. I just turned 40 though, so I guess this is my mid-life crisis. I quit drinking, smoking, and eating processed crap and filled my house with fruits and veggies and got rid of most of the worthless food in my cabinets. I haven't felt this good about myself in 20 years.

My advice -- EAT A BIG FILLING HEALTHY MEAL before the game and maybe bring something healthy to share with everyone so you don't feel weird with your solo ziploc baggie of veggies while everyone else is swilling beer and eating pizza.

Oh, and LIE TO THEM. Tell them your doctor insisted you change your diet or you were headed towards an early DEATH (which is actually TRUE:)

If you can bluff at Poker you can bluff at this.

Good luck.

Regarding binges, as another answer says, learn from it as move on. If you are thinking long term this wont have any affect. If you are focused on daily weighing you will see some weight gain, most of which will go away in a few days.

Were you eating on autopilot or just eating off paleo? Those are two very different things.

I think eating off paleo occasionally, depending on your level of allergy to gluten etc, is not the worst thing in the world.

Having an autopilot shove-food-in-your-face situation is another thing all together. That is a dangerous thing to have happen, and especially important to work on.

Good luck!

Bring your own goodies! Bacon wrapped dates come to mind... There are absolutely fun decadent bites that will keep your interest and help you steer the course away from total crap.

And I'm positive you can do wings that are decent. You could use butter or ghee to help them brown nicely in the oven, marinate overnight in decent (chiles, vinegar, salt) hot sauce.

I played poker last night. My assist was a nice pinot noir. Grok enough for me!

Forget about the food, concentrate on the cards. Keep it tight aggressive, and punish them whenever you get a hand.
