Major Sugar/Carb Binge!

Answered on August 19, 2014

Yesterday I couldn't contain myself. I ate more grain and sugar yesterday than I have in the last 8 months put together. Right now I feel sluggish, I have a headache, I'm extremely hungry but the thought of eating anything is making me want to throw up. What to do?

Chill, accept what happened, and remember how bad it made you feel. I don't know exactly what you could do to make the next day or so more pleasant, but in the long term the important point is: This *will* pass. Your body will recover, you'll feel good again, and you'll have another chance to stay on the wagon.

@Bill1102inf This may not be the place, but I'd actually be interested to hear about that. My understanding is that the standard paleo belief aligns with the low-carb belief that starch is biologically equivalent to the same mass of glucose monosaccharide. Of course, not all carbs are pure starch, and some have other redeeming properties, and fructose might be a whole different ballgame. Are those the differences you're talking about, or are there others?

when paleohackers all learn the difference between 'sugar' and 'carbs' my mission here will be partly complete

is that hunger or craving then...? As for What to do. i suggest maybe think about the why, be aware of how you feel, accept, move on.

Mostly, just wait. And: don't do that again.

If you are very, very hungry and can't just wait out the yuck-feeling, broth is usually a safe option, even on an upset stomach.

You live, you learn, you move on. Don't get caught up in guilt and regret, just chalk it up as a learning experience and keep on trying to improve something small every so often regardless of any slip ups. And remember, this way of life is just that - a way of life.
