Substitute for beer?

Occasionally I come across a recipe that could be modified for Paleo except that it calls for beer. I'd rather not buy Redbridge because its expensive and it does have corn syrup. What would be a good sub?

Stock will do the trick most of the time, as will water with a bouquet garni for flavor. Apple cider (hard or not) also works well. From time to time I'll also use wine.

I love using hard apple cider as a beer substitute. Angry Orchard makes a great one.

Greene's is the best GF beer I've tried. I believe Redbridge is owned by one of the big three, which is reason enough not to buy it.

Beef stock, chicken stock, fish sauce - lots of choices depending on what the recipe is. Recipes are a guide not a hard and fast rule that you must adhere to.

There are a ton of gluten free beers out there besides Redbridge you could use. I personally think that Redbridge is the worst of them all. If you have a decent liquor store near by you could "create your own 6 pack" if they have that option and taste test a bunch of gluten free beers. Preferably one right after the other. I'm betting the last one will taste the best :)

I say water kefir all the way. I've been wanting to buy some organic hops for my brew.
