A local small farm sells beef at a good price. Talked to the farmer about what the cows ate, and he said the cows are pastured, but the whole lot is fed around 5 lbs of corn a day from a trough to "train them" to come back or something. They receive the bare minimum of shots, only given antibiotics if it is absolutely necessary, and are hormone-free. Does the corn feeding ruin the beef, or is it better than buying covententional grain-fed beef? Grass fed beef is not much of an option around where I live.

Sounds like awesome beef to me. Purists look down on any corn in a ration, but it's not really a problem until the corn becomes the majority of their feed.
