Hack my relationship with beef rib eye: The only meat I want to eat (and lots of it)

Answered on August 19, 2014

I love a good rib eye but lately it seems to be the only thing I want to eat. Not NY strip, not skirt steak, not chuck, and not even bison rib eye can satisfy my appetite the way beef rib eye can. I just don't even know what is causing this.
Don't get me wrong, I don't eat it daily and (force myself to) eat other meats and seafood as well but something keeps pulling me back to beef rib eye. It's very odd.
I also eat a large amount of a variety of vegetables but I have no preference for veggies; there's no single veggie that's analogous to the way I feel about beef rib eye.
On days that I only eat beef rib eye, I try to limit myself to about a pound in one day. Try being the keyword here.
So until someone gives me a good reason why I shouldn't eat so much beef (rib eye, in particular), I'm gonna keep on eating.
But I still think I need help with this craving.
Thoughts?

P.S. The beef rib eye I buy is from Whole Foods and is "three-fourths grass-fed." Whatever that means.

You reminded me of the "Rib-eye Princess" that was on the low carb forums a while back. I always loved that handle! I think you're fine with the rib-eye. Maybe in 6 months you'll want a NY strip.

My question is, what kind of job do you have that supports such a habit? Even if it's only "3/4ths" grass-fed, ribeye from Whole Paycheck is hella expensive!

Ahh the mighty rib eye. It is far and away my favorite cut of beef. I don't eat it much though. It's a good vacation, reward food. Really fatty and high calorie.

Everyone needs a favorite thing or two. I would capitalize on a beautiful cut like that and eat it a different way several times a week if possible. Grilled, braised, slow-cooked, make it your art.

Rib Eye, love em! I stock up on the individually packaged ones at Trader Joe's (eat a bunch and freeze the rest) and at my local Bel-Air/Raley's and Costco (when the prices are good). Long live the mighty rib eye! I eat it 2, 3 sometimes 4 times a week (and that's for lunch and dinner as I prepare a bunch and leftovers go for lunches and future dinners). ; )

Rib eye is DIVINE! We bought some from a local farm recently, and my husband wants to eat nothing but that (haha). My obsession has been burgers, though. I can eat burgers all day, every day.

3/4ths grass fed means the beef raised on the traditional feedlot schedule, probably 9, months on grass, 3 months on grain. Produces excellent beef flavor, but every day on grain reduces the CLA and omega 3 in the beef. It also is a marketing ploy, and makes me mad.

Try to find 100% grass fed steaks, and cook on a lower temp. Delicious :)

You love what you love when you love it. I think most folks go through food phases (some lasting for years)and who knows why. It's certainly better than a fast food fixation like some people in my life. I know a lady who is cramming those "Doritos Tacos"in her gob as fast as she can...seriously! As "paleo-ites" I think our fixations are generally way healthier and probably absolutely nothing to worry about. (albeit more expensive too!)

I feel that way about salmon. Grilled salmon, with beautiful herbs and spices...I can eat a lot in one sitting, but like you, also try to limit myself. If it wasn't for the price, I probably would eat it every single day. I also force myself to eat other meats, but for me, nothing is as good as some delicious salmon.

Since you're already eating some variety in vegetables and other meats, I don't see a big problem. Everyone has individual preferences. We balance the world out;) If everyone was like me, salmon would be freakin' extinct. If everyone was like you, people would fighting and poking eyes out for some ribeye. I don't really like ribeye...more for you!
