buying bear fat in BC

ok so i know this is a long shot, but id really like to try bear fat as it is supposed to be one of the better tasting animal fats out there. sadly i do not hunt, although i wish i had the knowledge and money to do so. i know its not something i'm going to find in a store by any means, but maybe by some crazy chance theres a hunter out there who might be willing to sell some? was thinking about asking some of the natives my friend knows in squamish, as theyve hooked me up with wild caught salmon and trout before, but not i'm counting on that happening.

This looks like a very likely source.

It sounds delicious, too. (@whistlerski :) Please report back if you do end up eating some; very curious!

But what of the PUFA content and ratio?!?!?!?! ;o) (I would think it is similar to pig.)

The cheaper alternative, a fat almost identical to bear fat in composition, is lard. Pastured, etc.

Shoot a bear, trim the fat.

Just for kicks I googled "bear fat for sale". Sure enough you are going to find some, don't know if the price suits your wallet.

I read the account of the Press Party's 1889 midwinter trek over the Olympics recently. It's thought that they would have starved if they hadn't found and killed a bear near the end. They raved about the fat, but it might have been their hunger talking.
