Is pearl barley an acceptable grain?

Thanks for your reply! I was wondering if quinoa was acceptable as well, though never tried it. Might try a small amount from the bulk store... I wanted something to add to soup to add body...

Thanks for the reply! very helpful. I was adding it to soup and I was suspiciouly tired, but I'd heard it was a "good grain" (from a non-paleo source)

For paleo? No.

Barley is a wheat (strike one), and contains gluten (strike two). Indeed, barley is just a grain (strike three).

In general, all grains an pseudo-grains should be avoided. However, some people have less issues with rice or corn for grains (on occasion, not frequently), and still others find some pseudo-grains okay in moderation (e.g buckwheat).

Nope. Gluten can cause high blood sugar, inflammation and food cravings, among countless other symptoms. If you are missing grains too much check out quinoa or buckwheat (though I think they are not filling at all).
