What is the paleo take on baking powder and baking soda? Is it paleo?

Regular baking powder is made with corn starch, so it's not technically Paleo (GMO, grain). Hains baking powder is made with potato starch.

Completely harmless, just try to get the ones that don't have aluminum. Not that aluminum is that bad, it's mostly harmless actually, but in some people (like those with renal issues) it could cause problems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aluminium#Health_concerns.

i use baking soda regularly for everything but i make my own baking powder out of baking soda, potato starch, and cream of tartar. i couldn't find a good packaged kind at the grocery store.
