New to Paleo, confused about portion sizes

I just started Paleo 2 days ago. When making something like bacon and eggs for breakfast what is a good portion size? I am a fairly active male, 30 years old, 5'8" 240lbs. I am trying to lose a few pounds but that is not my priority, I am just trying to be healthier and make better choices than my previous SAD choices.

Many people start paleo eating a LOT. It's like your body is trying to make up for lost time with nutrients. Over time, you will find that your appetite adjusts. Mine varies quite a bit with the seasons, and with the day I have (sedentary, very active, etc).

People can eat well beyond fullness if they are trying to achieve the psychological state of satisfied.

No. Full is a physical feeling and satisfied is a psychological state.

Kind of nitpicky, don't you think? Full and satisfied are the same thing to me.

Works for some. I did that and started gaining weight pretty quickly.

You could take that even further: Don't eat until you're satisfied -- then it's already too late! Eat slowly, chew thoroughly, talk with a partner or read, drink water. And "leave some for Mr. Manners".

Eat until you are satisfied- not full. There is no famine coming.

Eat until you're full. If that means eating 6 eggs and 6 pieces of bacon, go for it. Don't be afraid to change up your protein either. Eggs and chopped steak is also delicious (and lower in sodium & preservatives than bacon).

Hi Bertusflow,

Eat until you are about 80-90 percent full. Usually it takes a few minutes before the brains signals you are full.

Here are some guidelines that might help you:

240lbs, looking to lose less than 10lbs? It depends on what else you eat but I'd guess somewhere around 4 slices of bacon, 4-6 eggs and 1/2 of berries if you are on LC side. HC, maybe 1 slice ham, 4-6 eggs and 2 smallish potatoes.

So my pound a day minimum is overkill? I like to shoot for around four to six thousand calories...

I'm about 6' 1" and 215. I eat maybe half a pound of bacon once or twice a week and typically about 4 eggs per day, with or without the bacon. I also like to mix in asparagus or spinach or steak.

I like the suggestion to eat until you feel satiated though. I think that is always a good guideline.
