Bacon-Wrapped Appetizers?

Answered on August 19, 2014

So having some people over for dinner and really want to do some sort of bacon-wrapped appetizers. I don't wan't to do dates due to the high sugar content, but wondering if there are some good (low carb/sugar) and simple ideas?

...maybe I should just do bacon-wrapped bacon? Sounds fool proof

It isn't cream cheese, but will do. It lends a bit of sweetness to the spiciness.

I had some bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers at a Superbowl party! They used cream cheese, but you could substitute it with maybe a guacamole or egg type mixture!

Just cut jalapenos in half, gut them, fill them with your mixture, and then keep that mixture inside by wrapping it in bacon, then baking it!

I make bacon wrapped scallops. They are amazing, you can do a lovely light honey glaze if you want (or not if you're worried about sugar), you can also serve with some pesto sans cheese. Bacon wrapped water chestnuts are also delicious! Oh! And! Bacon wrapped citrus shrimp...unbelievable.

I've done the jalapeno's stuffed with spicy bulk sausage, wrapped in bacon and baked at 400 for 30 minutes. 10 jalaps needs 1/2 lb sausage and makes 20 appetizers. Very substantial. I eat them for breakfast!

I made bacon-wrapped sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving last year, they were a hit. Bite-sized cubes on toothpicks. Most folks needed maple syrup for dipping, I didn't think that was necessary though.

If you don't do dairy, you can still do awesome bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers stuffed with beef liver. Not a pate, just straight up chunks of beef liver trimmed to fit in 1/2 a jalapeno, & wrapped in bacon. Especially good if you can do them on the BBQ.

If you do dairy, bacon wrapped, cream cheese-stuffed jalapenos are AMAZING. If you don't do dairy, use almond, cashew, or sun butter in place of the cheese.

Bacon wrapped oysters aka angels on horseback aka anges a cheval. I don't bother with the wrap, just fry them side by side in a pan.

I like to do watercressnuts and liver wrapped in bacon, using a toothpick to hold it all together. Very nice.

Scallops - everyone loves bacon wrapped scallops.

I've also made pâté-stuffed fresh figs, that are bacon wrapped.
