Finger Foods for 8 month old?

Answered on August 19, 2014

My 8-month old is in daycare and our provider wants to give her some finger foods. Apparently, she is feeling left out watching the other baby jam cheerios down his throat. The requirements are that the food be firm enough to handle without squishing but dissolve or "smoosh" easily in her mouth. She already has rice cakes but we need another option.

I've done peas with my 10 month old for the past couple months. They're the perfect size and easily smooshable :)

How bout those freeze dried apples, banana, and strawberries? I just bought a box of 10 or 12 packets from Costco at a decent price. They're a little sweet but as part of baby's finger food rotation, it might be okay.

Fresh fruits and vegetables! Baby carrots specifically come to mind.

AVOCADO! choose ones a little firmer than you would for cooking with, and cut into cubes.

Everything is finger food when you're 8 months old.

My babe loves; - Cheese sticks - you can buy all natural raw cheese if you want to (if you do dairy) - Sweet potato and carrot sticks very lightly steamed so they smoosh easily but are firm. - Dried fruit chunks or sticks (dehydrate yourself so you can control portions/whats in them better). - Homemade muesli bars (Elana's Pantry has great recipes) - Strips of chicken breast/steak Thats all I can think of for now :) Hope it helps!
