FODMAPs sensitivity and hunger?

I have self-diagnosed FODMAPs sensitivity (by which I mean, I get very bloated and gross when I eat them and feel better when I don't). I cut out all of them and I'm introducing them a little at a time to see what I react to and what I don't.

Yesterday I had an apple, and realized right away that this is one of the foods I'm reacting too. The bloating and tummy upset came right back :(

The weird thing is that this morning the bloating was gone but all day today I've been STARVING hungry. I actually ate my usual breakfast (3 eggs + veggies; usually keeps me going for 4-5 hours), looked down at the empty plate, went "damn, I'm HUNGRY," and went back for another serving (chicken + green beans). Then I was still hungry but I had places to be so I dealt with it until lunch - ate lunch (chicken salad + kale cooked in coconut oil) and was immediately hungry again. When I say hungry I mean that physically uncomfortable stomach-empty feeling, not just hunger from boredom.

Usually I have to force myself to eat so this is weird for me - could it be a residual gut flora imbalance from the FODMAPs yesterday? Or die off or something? I'm going to try some sweet potato tonight at dinner and see if that helps.

Hmm, I doubt that eating something with FODMAPS yesterday would make you hungrier today. Is it possible you ate less yesterday because you were bloated and full-feeling, so today your body is just trying to compensate for the shortage?

I find that eating FODMAPS one day makes me lose my appetite entirely the next day. I can't eat breakfast, have to force myself to eat lunch (sometimes need to skip it all together) and then have a tiny dinner. If I avoid FODMAPS, then my appetite is normal. When I do eat them though, I too experience the same 'uncomfortable empty-stomach feeling' and literally have this insatiable hunger. It drives me nuts!

I realize this is an old post, but I have had very similar experience with fodmaps. Fodmap ingestion seems very closely related to how hungry I feel, and the hunger is of the kind you describe, some kind of uncomfortable empty-stomach feeling. I have previously been diagnosed with chronic gastritis, and was then told that the weird hunger feeling could be a symptom of that (no one had ever heard of FODMAPS back then). Wild theory, but perhaps eating fodmaps in people intolerant to it temporarily brings on a bloom of pathogenic bacteria in the stomach/small intestine that only gradually resolves again. I do for example notice some kind of withdrawal/detox after eating high FODMAPS, and a temporary surge in my GERD symptoms.
