TedTalk "debunking" paleo

I was looking for paleo videos on youtube and this is the first result when I searched "paleo".

It's actually a fairly interesting video from an obviously knowledgeable anthropologist??? However the only point she makes that goes against paleo is that her research team found evidence that our ancestors ate barley thousands of years before the agricultural revolution.

Her closing statements that say what we SHOULD eat is basically just an outline of paleo. It's like she's basically only "debunking" the fact that there was a paleo diet, while supporting the idea of what we know as "paleo".

anyone else see this?

I like the anthropology pieces in general. Looking out a cave mouth in Mexico what do you see? Desolate scrub? No! Breakfast!

Being an anthropologist would make you snippy about someone kidnapping Grok and turning him into a fad. She probably hates the Flintstones too.

I like the part about the rabbits but would add some hippies.

Yes, this is quite common -- people create smug puff pieces by "debunking" a strawman version of paleo (usually either the all-meat version or the historical reenactment version) even though they agree with 90% of it. Regarding the evolutionary issue: thousands of years is a pretty short time. Likely you'd see some adaptations that made people better at surviving on grain, but that doesn't mean that it's what's optimal for us. (doesn't mean it isn't, either).

Robb Wolf did an entire podcast debunking that talk

Yeah, I think someone should make a hatchet piece on the SAD where people only eat pizza and fast food burgers and fries, and another on the vegan diet (be sure to set up a strawman showing how vegans eat - say, only lettuce and carrots), etc. and how it's a failed re-enactment of what rabbits eat. Be sure to show lots of rabbits.

Then, at the last minute, say "If you thought that was ridiculously off and flawed, now you know what that paleo debunking TEDTalk was all about."

Yeah I saw it too and came to the same conclusions as you, imho she didn't debunk what paleo is, just what it's called.
