What did you think of the Ancestral Health Symposium?

Did anybody attend the AHS?...if so what did you think? Did you have any 'wow' moments?

I have to say I think pretty much all the presentations were excellent, but some did make me sit-up and think! I particularly liked Nora Gedgaudas and her talk, I knew gluten was bad, but learning that it has so many wide-ranging effects particularly in brain health was eye-opening, it goes far beyond the usual association of gluten & intestinal discomfort...gluten is just plain nasty!

I also though Andreas Eenfeldt was brilliant and his enthusiasm as seeing the rising paleo movement as something than can really change the future for everyone. As he said if we can make nutritional recommendations from big pharma and the governments irrelevant, people will not longer listen to them and whatever research they fund and manipulate the findings off will be easier to discredit...However to do that (leading into Matt Lalonde's presentation here) we need to do this through producing scientifically accurate work and to do this through following the scientific method correctly and not making ridiculous claims or assumptions. We need to be respected within scientific community first if our research/findings are to be taken seriously in the wider public, if we make wacky statements we will get labelled as a cult (which I believe we struggle with already) and we look like any other fad diet.

All in all it was a brilliant 2 days....and it kind of felt like being at the beginning of something big!

Thoughts?

that podcast was truly good listening. Especially Sisson's stuff. Forget all the paleo stuff, that guy is just a good speaker with good common sense stuff all around.

I thought it was a great event and I look forward to going again next year (assuming there is another one next year.) Since I only saw half of the presentations I can't wait until the videos are posted so I can watch them all.I agree that Andreas Eenfeldt was fantastic. A very pleasant surprise.

Here are links to all the blogger wrap-up posts. Scroll to mid-bottom of page for links.

Robb Wolf did a great podcast with Matt Lalonde and Mark Sisson -- episode #91 I think (the latest one). One thing I really liked in their discussion was that if felt like all the different people are really coming together to create a much more unified movement. That can only be beneficial.
