There's been a couple of times that this has happened to me.
I ate almonds and sunflower seeds last night and woke up throughout the night to vomit. I had muscle cramps and chills as well. Also experience bad burps. This has happened to me in the last a couple times but hadn't in a long time , almost a year.
The first time it happened was when I took gardens of life vegan protein powder with some almond milk. The pain I experience after was excruciating. I even vomited yellow towards the end, worst taste ever. I stopped taking that protein powder because I figured I had some type of food intolerance with it. The thing is I would always take it and stopped for a few months when I tried to take it again is when I experience those symptoms.
But after I started having the same symptoms when I ate nuts mostly almonds. I never understood why this would happened. It's such a strong pain followed by cramps, dihrea and vomiting.
I am vegan,have been for a while now.
I also recently read about pasturation. This means that even if marked "raw" they truly aren't. They either under go a pasturazation with PPO or get stemmed.
PPO being the cheapest form and usually favored. PPO a chemical so nasty that it was banned by both the National Hot Rod and American Motorcycle Racing Associations, where it had been used as a fuel before being deemed too dangerous. PPO is also a carcinogen. For these and other reasons, most countries, including the EU, ban imported nuts treated with PPO. (The ABC is actively working to change that.)
So after learning that it makes me wonder what is truly causing my symptoms.
If anyone can shed some light it be great.
I'll probably just stop eating almonds.

It's amazing how food can alter your body, mind, and mood.
I use to eat them all the time until about 1 1/2 ago when all of this started to happen.
I've decided to completely stay away from nuts unless soaked for a long period, even then I probably won't have them. It's such an ugly feeling and don't want to hurt my body.

Honestly that all sounds more like an allergic reaction than anything to me. Almonds - along with most nuts and seeds - are common allergens and can cause some of the most severe allergic reactions known to medicine. If it only happens sometimes, maybe you're allergic to additive or treatment chemical as you mentioned. A "food intolerance" probably wouldn't result in severe pain, cramping, diarrhea, and vomiting. I'd stay away from that stuff completely and consider getting tested for food allergies so you don't discover other ones the hard way too.
Oh yeah, and since this is PaleoHacks, I'm required to reprimand you for being vegan.
