Should we eat our Boogers?

Answered on August 19, 2014
Created November 16, 2011 at 1:39 AM

So I have been noticing lately, how all kids eat boogers. I tend to look at kids, to see how most things are done naturally. Is booger eating a natural occurance? Is there a reason we should/shouldn't eat our boogers? Any chance it builds immunities, or aids in allergy prevention?

I know, I thought I was just weird for thinking this at first too. But then I just kept seeing more and more kids eating their boogers, and realized it can't be a learned behavior, and there must be some reason that kids feel the need to eat this stuff.

But isnt that why we need to supplement with vitamins, minerals, and probiotics? Because we are not ingesting this stuff as much as we should?

I read an article about it once that said it helps expose us to small amounts of things we encounter in our environment so that we can build immunity to them... so maybe.

If your ever in the situation were you must drink your own urine to survive I propose you also eat your boogers.

I do understand were the question comes from, and agree. I see my sons do the grok squat effortlessly and other animalistic movements that come natural that we seem to grow out of. I'm all for not washing my fruits and veggies when they come from my home organic garden to get some good stuff out of that. I feel like hyperwashing everything we ingest has some negative effect but I still do it with market goods.

I must admit though that I have actually never witnessed either of my boys nor do I actually recall ever eating boogers as a child. So as this seems to be a rare event even in children I'll abstain and not feel like I'm missing out. I just bought some local raw honey though for the whole allergy thing :)
