Severe cough and allergies remedy for ex-smoker?

I couldn't find any related questions so here we go. This is my first time here and I've only been paleo for about a month now. At first I didn't feel any bad symptoms but then as of the passed week I have been getting severe allergy symptoms including a bad cough at night that gets so bad it jolts me out of sleep and wakes my partner.

The first time I quit "cold turkey", and I hadn't smoked for 3 years straight. That time I only got a semi bad cough mostly at night but it never really woke me from a deep sleep, and I don't recall ever getting bad allergies. Then I moved into a place across the street from one of my close friend's who is a smoker and I started smoking socially again and that went on for at most a year. Long story short, I've been trying to go through some lifestyle changes so I quit again and I'm never going to pick it up again.

But! Now, it seems like my allergies and cough are severe this time around and I'm wondering if it's also because I am just starting out paleo on top of that and my body is experiencing a lot of drastic changes at once? I probably guessed right but I suppose I just wanted some reassurance from someone else and maybe get some advice on symptom relief that is not drugs.

Thanks for your time.

Good tips for helping the detox along too... I never would have thought about green tea and ginger. I have actually stopped dairy and noticed a big difference. Thanks again!

good for you .. N.O.P.E Not One Puff Ever. Youre a non smoker now. Read this http://whyquit.com/whyquit/joelcigfriend.html

about your coughing and allergies(?)..I dont know too much about allergies per se but it could be you gotta get a little worse before you can get better with tackling these life style changes all at once. Youre expelling all the toxins from nicotine alongside S.A.D food toxins. I suggest you drink and hydrate alot to flush the nicotine out of your system.DRINK ALOT OF WATER. Green tea with lemon and ginger. Homemade soups if you can. And hopefully your coughing will subside and youll start feeling better A.S.A.P. Id probably stay away from dairy for a while as they tend to congest and increase mucous. And if you need help with the staying quit. Quit net dot com is a huge Godsend to many. Pop onto chat there if u feel your will is disolving. Good Luck :)
