what is the best way to desensitize yourself to environmental allergies? I have terrible allergies year round, but don't want to take medications that only treat the symptoms.

Paleo diet and exercise should do the trick. I've seen homeopathic things at wholefoods where they've gathered up all the local allergens into a dropper, but it looked like an allergy attack in a bottle to me. I've heard good things about eating local raw honey containing the local pollen.

Quitting gluten and drastically reducing refined sugar pretty much nullified my hayfever and asthma (the asthma was mostly mild anyway, but sometimes it could flare up badly).

If you are paleo you need to be very strict paleo likely. For me, spring is the worst time of year, but if I stray from my regular paleo type diet, things get bad anytime of the year. Real bad. If strict paleo doesn't work, then do autoimmune protocol. Gut health is likely the most important factor to get under control. I have written a few articles on the topic for me specifically:

http://www.thebarefootgolfer.com/2013/03/01/seasonal-allergies-are-probiotics-the-cure/ http://www.thebarefootgolfer.com/2013/03/22/soil-based-organisms-a-superior-probiotic/ http://www.thebarefootgolfer.com/2013/06/24/seasonal-allergies-revisited-vitamin-d-to-cancer/

If all this doesn't work, I would suggest a naturopath or integrative medicine physician. Paleo isn't always the magic sure for everyone. I still get allergies, just not as bad or as often as I used to. Stress can also play a huge role in our immune system function and thus the expression of environmental allergies.

Hope it helps

Going paleo has pretty much eliminated my allergies unless I'm in a moldy place. Then they go off! Also consider that to be a factor.

Have your allergies lessened on the Paleo diet? My environmental allergies were really bad when I moved to central TX 3 years ago. I was virtually bedridden due to all the meeds I was on. When I went Paleo 9 months ago, my environmental allergies disappeared within 3 months or so. However, I still had chronic rashes all over my body. I had to go on the autoimmune protocol to get rid of the rashes. Hope that helps.
