Ciroc Vodka Distilled from Grapes

Answered on August 19, 2014

Just wondering what the general consensus is on Ciroc Vodka, it is distilled from grapes and not a starch based medium.

Thoughts? I realize its not exactly Paleo but maybe lesser evil than other booze as a result?

Blue Ice is very good straight. awful name, awful packaging but very nice smooove vodka. Chopin is all potato too, and from the home country, but very pricy. For rye I like Belvedere, but again, pricy, Sobieski is dirt cheap rye vodka that's also pretty tasty and smooove. Ketel One always treats me well too. Technically, anything distilled from fruit (like grapes, apples, plums etc) is a brandy, or eau de vie. Grappa (and, in France 'Marc') is distilled from the grape skins, stems and other leftover goodies from the winemaking process. Whoa. I know way too much about alcohol. :) cheers!

I have yet to find a potato one that I really like straight. tito's which is 100% corn is wonderful for me. chilled out of the freezer it's slightly viscous and clean.

Just don't drink it straight- there is a grape-y flavor that comes through when it's mixed, but straight it tastes like paint thinner (not that I've tasted paint thinner). Not bad as a mixer, just not good for shots.

yeah i mean, it shouldn't matter once it's distilled. For liquors aged in a barrel, you might start having to worry, cause in *some* barrels supposedly they use some glue/paste type thing that contains gluten. But I'm Polish, so I still want my vodka from Potatoes or rye.

hard liquor is hard liquor. and as i recall, even hard liquors made from gluten grains are gluten free, since they are distilled.

if i were to drink ciroc vodka, then i should be willing to drink most any other hard liquor (mostly clear ones, not ones that have sugar added)

Tartare is correct. If it was just distilled from grapes, it would be grapa, which, while similar, has its own unique flavor profile. Personally, I'll take a good potato vodka every time.
