ONE piece of eating advice to give to the non-enlightened

I know it is in many ways terrible to have any sort of ego about healthy eating or knowledge about food science. This stuff should be common sense and it is a shame that we have to self educate. The title is mostly just for fun!

I have many friends about whom I worry about how poorly they eat. Not like nervous breakdown worry, more so sporadically and mildly.

It got me thinking, most people only seem like to hear about "Paleo" or whatever just because it usually leads to a heated argument or they get some kind of intellectual stimulation from it. Rarely however do I find people actually put into practice these sorts of things (Note: I don't tell people much anymore about the way I eat unless they ask, this was more in my early Paleo days when I was probably still trying to convince myself!). For friends or strangers though, my question is, what ONE piece of advice do you think is best to give? You can only choose one so don't get technical.

Examples are

-Eat Real Food, not processed food

-Don't eat grains

-Eat MUCH less sugar

-Eliminate oils that are not called Coconut, Olive, Avocado, or Palm.

Honestly, though the science still seems very prepubescent, I lean towards the last example listed. Just a gut feeling of mine or more so maybe a hope that so much of disease is caused by "bad" oils and bad O6/O3 ratios (because if it is, it is something we can easily bypass in the future). Most people by now should know that excess sugar is bad and causes Diabetes etc. Otherwise it would be a tie between that and what I chose.

So I think this would be my one piece of advice. Anyways a high % of processed foods have said oils, so if I can really get a person to just follow that, then they will be much better off (:

Thoughts?

Um, sorry, the dinos were extinct by then. You might have said mammoth instead, but, then again we do have some frozen samples, along with their (possibly corrupted DNA), so maybe we could pull a Jurassic Park and get Mammoth steaks.

If you want maximal micronutrients, eat animals who eat excrement: rabbits, fly larvae, earthworms. Or are we getting too detailed?

In all seriousness the first thing that popped into my mind was what you already figure, though not in those words. I'd tell people to avoid industrially processed nut and seed oils like the plague, giving a few examples (soy, canola, corn, rapeseed, etc...) then ramble a bunch of good oils so they understand it's not that restrictive: eat butter, tallow, bacon grease, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, macadamia oil, palm kernal oil, etc....

I'd maybe go so far as to tell them to EAT MORE FAT but not only might that advice go poorly in the wrong context, but they'd probably stop taking me seriously right then and there.

Use your time machine to go back to the paleolithic and find out what a dinosaur really tasted like.

Preach veganism, or better yet breatharianism to your enemies, for fun and profit. Tell them they're not truly enlightened until they learn to eat just "prana".

Meanwhile, eat paleo.

Don't eat anything that can't be found in nature. (Do you find bullion cube bushes or Crisco trees?)

and be sure to eat grassfed and pastured vegans (aka cows, sheep, goats, buffalo). >:-D

This one -Eat Real Food, not processed food , would solve most of the problems. It would accomplish most of two other ones you mentioned

-Eat MUCH less sugar

-Eliminate oils that are not called Coconut, Olive, Avocado, or Palm.

Very sneaky, even if you didn't mean to be. Anyway I mind my own business unless asked, in which case I can give the entire story if needed. Most people don't ask because they don't want to deal with how bad they are eating.
