Administrative question: do we get notified when our questions get deleted?

Answered on September 12, 2014
Created September 16, 2010 at 2:17 AM

I asked a question about marijuana for medical use relating to a paleolithic diet. Marijuana is a plant part that is legal for medical prescription in some areas of the country. The question related to paleolithic diets because it is a natural plant with toxicities and benefits, and I was interested in the paleo perspective of these decision criteria.

In fact, its usage is increasingly supported by peer reviewed literature for some medical conditions, such as my own. In paleolithic times, I have no doubt that herbs were used for medicinal purposes, and this one sure is. "Let our food be our medicine, and our medicine be our food" (Hippocrates)

I do not see the question listed under my questions, so I assume it got deleted. Explanation please?

And if I come off as thirsting for attention, that is something I'll have to address. But it conflicts with my only dogmatic belief, that there is no self, so it is possible that your perspectives on stupidity of tone and thirst for attention do not accurately reflect reality. The only reason this thread is up is because I couldn't find a way to contact an admin directly, and I 100% understand the need to keep forum topics, well, topical.

By the way Patrick, the only answer that I've ever downvoted is on the chlorella topic when you answered "Snake-oil. At best." I thought that was a little stupid, when actual paleo-related discussion was going on about it. Again, two sides to every story.

I didn't see the original question, but let's face it, drug use is very paleo. Many if not most tribes use some type of drug. I hear betal nut packs quite a kick. Native Indians in the US and south america use/used a number of powerful hallucinogens including peyote, mescal bean, etc. In times past, they provided a useful psychological outlet to society.

So if I specify those things in the question, and don't use a joke to lead into the meat of the question, you two won't delete the new question? I do feel like this question was held to a higher standard because it was about a recreational drug, but it specifically asked about its medicinal uses, and I commented that it was legal where I lived.

Apparently I'm totally into the topic of hack salience, because I'm still posting comments here. When the deleted post asked "What do you see as the benefits and disadvantages to weed for pain management with regards to paleo", is that still having nothing to do with paleo? There's all kinds of possible information to be gleaned in answers, such as adaptation to toxic plants, recreation of paleolithic peoples, experiences with medical marijuana, impact on food craving, etc etc. This is the kind of question that would be ignored if no one cared about it, like happens to some questions.

Melissa, I do not agree on the "tenuous connection" bit. See below. And there are soooooo many websites on cupcake recipes, acne, thyroid issues, fermenting drinks, etc. I doubt you'll agree that my topic fits in this category, but I believe it does. Things link to a paleo lifestyle in all kinds of different ways.

And while you're obviously the judge, jury, and executioner on this site, in my view, the topic fit the FAQ criteria as well as many others. The active ingredient in weed in a pharmaceutical drug (Marinol) that sometimes is a direct competitor to NSAIDs, which are a competitor to diet based interventions when it comes to pain modulated by inflammation. Out of the biggest health problems that turns people to paleo, joint pain is one of them. I know I am not alone on this forum with having major joint pain issues, and that is the primary reason I started the diet in the first place.

I deleted it because it has nothing to do with Paleo. Plus, the tone was utterly sophomoric. I am too busy to notify folks when I delete their posts. C'est la vie.

On the plus side, I don't take it personally when I come across a post that needs deleting -- and neither should you take it personally if I delete it.

For the record: I have no position on marijuana - either pro or con.

Yeah, I noticed my question from a few days back about the weirdest benefit of going paleo, was suddenly gone the next day. Stephen made a sorta sex oriented response, but I didn't think it was that bad compared to other comments made in other threads. Plus it was just one response. I was a bit surprised. NOt sure what the problem was but it would be nice to know why it was deleted. Usually if a thread is too similar to a previous one, then the previous one is linked. I just thought it would be interesting to see what kinds of surprising outcomes and things people have experienced, instead of just the same ones we always hear about like better energy, etc. If I don't understand why the thread was nuked, I will be more likely to commit the same mistake again.
