Are there better alternatives to concerta with less side effects?

Concerta is a stimulant like ritalin for focus but last for 12 hours as opposed to 4 hours. I do have ADD which has gotten a tad better but its still a nuisance. I have been use stratera which was working but is not as effective as it once was. I haven't taken it for a decade though. Are there herbal remedies besides caffeine which help in the focusing and impulsive department? I'm worried about the possibilty of making it harder to sleep and extra stomach aches. Also not sure how it effects the brain structure too.

Some idea I have myself are, HIIT right before doing work, sun exposure, and training to work for 30 minute bursts without any distractions.

i know what you mean about movies. i was never Dx ADD, but I'm sure I'm borderline. i hate movies. my husband (who actually is ADD) loves broadway musicals. i'd rather poke my eyeballs out. i feel like the little kid squirming, sticking my feet up on the seat in front, etc. He scolds me all the time. :)

I don't think my job utilizes my strengths right now , but I can't easily leave it either due to the health insurance. I have heard about bulletproof coffee before. Does it protect you from bullets? Why the strange name? I was ADHD, however I have a lot lower energy now so I don't tend to be hyper. I do fidget and not like to sit still for long. Very trick to watch a movie comfortably if its any bit boring. Even fun movies can be hard to watch.

Are you just ADD or ADHD? I think you are on the right track with HIIT before work. I would also recommend figuring out a way to work in smaller sessions during work. Like a quick round of jumprope, jumping jacks, squats, pushups, etc that you can fit in during 10 minutes. Also, get out into nature. Even just a 15 minutes walk or bike ride.

As for supplements, we've had good luck with fish oil. Or even just high fat, like adding heavy cream. You may also want to try bulletproof coffee, which combines the coffee with butter and coconut oil (in a blender - it's actually pretty yummy).

Are you in a job that capitalizes on your strengths? Do you have any flexibility with your hours? The two ADD people in my house are major night owls, and focus so much better in the late evening.

My 13 year old daughter is ADD. We homeschool her. Here is her typical day:

Eat breakfast. Swing for 15 minutes. Math (about 30-45 minutes). Swing 15 minutes. Writing (about 30-45 minutes). Eat lunch. Ride bike for 30 minutes. Read (an hour or more - she likes this). Eat snack. Finish up school work. Jog or hike. Hang out with friends. Dinner. Stay up until midnight doing art. (Art is her thing. No problem with focus there!)

She has been able to avoid medications, but you can see this has only been possible being at home where she is able to move as needed.
