Is cutting out added fats on high carb a good idea

With the exception of red palm oil, cutting out added fats on wapf/high carb in order to get in the best quality fats?

By added fats I mean coconut oil, butter etc. not just any high fat food

It depends on what your definition of "carbs" is. Sprouted Ezekiel bread(carbs) with butter(fat) is much different than a Big Mac(fat) and a coke(carbs)

when you add in the fact you are not only decreasing fats by increasing carbs, but also seeking to remove "added fat??" from what i assume are processed foods... otherwise how would fat be added... then you end up with SAD macros and processed food while your trying to minimize fats... that sounds pretty SAd type thinking to me. thats ofcourse based on my interpretation of what the OP wrote; granted the OP was very brief and not very clear so who knows what he was actually intending to ask

that is not what i said... i said if you move your paleo macros to high carb 50-85% and keep your protein ideal 15-25% then your fats by definition will be at best 35% (assuming lowest value of other 2) so if u increase your carbs keep your proteins static then by default your macros will fall in line with SAD or other diets antagonistic to what many understand paleo to be.

How does eating paleo equal SAD? My body didn't like 70f/25p/5c I got heart palpitations and constant severe brain fog. not to mention the 4-5 day soreness from working out. I am constantly tweaking my macros to work with my lifestyle.

while you are correct that paleo is not low carb, i think 'high carb' paleo and 'reduced fat' paleo are not really paleo... its SAD .... almost by defenition... certainly by macros

Since when is "Paleo" a low carb way of eating? Not everyone needs to lose weight...

Probably should...carbs and fats together promote weight gain and form triglycerides

I think I understand what you're asking... with everyone you need to play around with your numbers, ESPECIALLY if you're super active like you are. Sweet potatoes are def your best source of carbs, especially post-workout. I would say if any added fats, do some coconut oil when you're cooking for sure, those MCT's do wonders for your brain, and the antimicrobial/fungal properties are great for the gut.

If you're looking to cut fats in replacement of higher carb or proteins, I would say start with just the fats normally found in the meats you eat, cook in coconut oil (or butter or bacon grease), and if you feel like your body needs a little more fat, then you can play with it and find the right numbers. For me I don't do too well going over about 50g of carbs per day... I do a high carb refeed day of paleo pancakes (using plantains is amazing, check out paleomom.com for recipe), blueberry syrup with bulletproof coffee for breakfast, grok salad with avocado and meat for lunch, and usually a stir fry for dinner just to make sure i kick myself out of ketosis at least once a week...

Hope any of this helps. Just remember you don't want to go >150g carbs, then you're just relying on blood sugar spikes, also you may want to think about cutting back on the amount of physical activity you do for your adrenal glands' sake... just saying ;). good luck!

I'm still not clear what you mean by "added fats"? Does that mean you're going to eat the naturally occurring fat in the meat, fish, eggs, and vegetables but not augment that fat with coconut oil and butter, although you will make an exception for red palm oil? It's probably OK, but you do need to be sure you're not replacing those carbs with too much protein. High protein can get you in trouble--hard on the kidneys, and it can metabolize to glucose to some degree through gluconeogenesis (very inefficiently, but it happens). Adequate protein is fine, but nobody advocates a truly high protein diet.

As long as you are eating plenty of natural fat, not avoiding fat, you should be OK.

If you're doing something non-paleo and still coming here for advice, that's understandable. Please clarify what you're doing (beyond "high-carb WAPF" - maybe post a link?)

If you're trying to do Paleo, you may need additional guidance in a big way. We don't typically condone high-carb, low-fat!

I don't consider myself high carb paleo but I average anywhere from 40-150g a day due to calorie intake. I still seem to average 45-50f/25-20c/30p. I am convinced I need more carbs I tried low carb paleo and it sucks if you are as active as I am. (HIIT bootcamp 4 days a week plus 5 days a week construction). I am also 6ft 160 so weight loss is not my goal

I'm not really sure exactly what you're question is... are you asking what's the best fats to eat if you're going to eat higher carb paleo?
