The raw fruititarian diet being marketed as man's original diet

Answered on August 19, 2014

My major problem with this diet is a simple one.

The only place you'd have access to fruit year around is near the Equator. Anyone who is not of African descent would not have the skin to survive such a climate. Now should we conclude that it is possible for our skin's melanin to have evolved to a less sunny climate, but our endocrine system to not have done the same? What are your opinions. It does follow from my assertion that if you ARE very dark pigmented that this diet MAY suit you.

indeed the role of epigenetics is also a factor - possibly a very important one - however when it comes to problems with carbs (with the exception of monogenic disorders) the simple answer is gut flora

Also, can I point out that I was unaware going LFRW made your hair change color. It's like she went super-saiyan with her level of stupidity. And one last thing, SHE CAN BARELY TALK. BARELY! When she first starts talking it's like she has to internally wind herself up. Ever try and talk to someone with crashing blood sugar? That's exactly how they talk, "Mumble, mumble...low...fat *deep breath*...vegan...mumble, mumble."

It also could be an individual-specific(single lifespan adaptation.) type of thing, which raises a more interesting thought.

I think your first point may be the case for any specific diet, not exclusive to fruit. The second part is the correct but probably more cause and effect. As it relates to damage of some kind or malfunction in the body due to poor habits

I'm glad you brought up the lactose tolerance among ancestors of diary farmers. That further supports the notion that dietary adaptations are made much quicker than thought. This line of thinking leads me to an ethnic-based diet, although not particularly good for the anglo-saxon's haha

The proof is in the pudding, just look at the long term followers of this diet. They're all skinny weaklings with mental disorders. Many of them suffer from hair loss, bad teeth, lose their libido (and call it natural, lol), women lose their periods,... If a diet is that hard to get right, how could it be the natural human diet?

Bananaboy looks like straight out of concentration camp in his latest videos and the only reason Freele looks acceptable is her boob job which gives a false impression of her body. Without it she would just look like an angry surfboard ;)

(Btw, I love fruit and eat plenty of it :))

EDIT: Yep, the fruit diet certainly builds some impressive and healthy looking bodies:

For the love of everything ancestral can we please stop feeding these emaciated trolls? Wait like two years and they'll all die out of starvation anyways. Except maybe Doug Graham and DR: the former is pickled from too much fructose and the later says he had a vasectomy.

Dude, if you believe the "Out of Africa" theory then we are all of African descent.

Since we all evolved from fruit-eating primates then, in some sense, it is one of our ancesteral diets, but then, since we evolved from fish, then so is plankton. Do you think a diet consisting only of plankton would be healthy and sustainable?

I don't understand the African part. There are plenty of folks whose ancestors come from equatorial regions, like my wife, who is not from Africa, for whom fruit are appropriate. Otherwise, I agree with your ideas. As much as I like the fruity taste, a lot of fruit is just not right for me. All of my ancestors came from northern Europe.

Whilst it may appear to be a reasonable assumption that pigmentation is related to fructose tolerance we should remember that not all habitats where humans have existed near the equator support the diversity and abundance of fruit that we find in our supermarket aisles.

Also, FODMAP (Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides and PolyolS) intolerances are associated with an individual's bacterial flora rather than ethnicity.

Diet books have been written on assertions like yours, which is not too far away from the blood type diet.

I don't believe that you could support the "dark skin = raw frugivore" hypothesis without a gigantic population study. However, just as shorter term adaptation allows most Northern Europeans to digest milk as adults, there could be similar adaptation by traditional (ie 50-100 generations) frugivore groups to thrive on high fruit diets. I couldn't do it. A single uncooked apple is enough to get my guts rumbling.
