I made a bunch of lifestyle changes recently, notably: no alcohol, strict Paleo (low FODMAPS version), trying a new cleanser/moisturizer, and taking a variety of new supplements.
The result is that my blackhead-, clogged pore-, occasional whitehead-prone skin is the clearest it's been in a very, very long time (proabably since I went off the pill 2.5 years ago). And this is usually my most breakout-y time of the month. Now, I don't necessarily want to have to always be taking all the supplements that I am currently taking. I'd eventually like to be getting the majority of these nutrients from my diet. I'd also like to just lower the overall maintenance level of this routine.
I'm sure there is a holistic effect happening, but some of the new things I'm doing were specifically meant to target acne. So I was thinking maybe I could weed out what probably is helping and what isn't. Here's what I've been doing:
1. Strict paleo (low FODMAPS, as best as I can - about 1.5 weeks so far)
2. No alcohol (this has only been for about 2 weeks, but I don't drink often anyway)
3. Supplements (I started all of these within the last week or two): Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin B Complex, Neptune Krill Oil, MSM (sulphur), Chromium Picolinate, and a daily probiotic.
4. Started washing my face with Dr. Bronner's 'baby mild' soap (bar) and moisturizing with Derma E Vitamin E and Tea Tree Oil Antiseptic Creme.

It's hard to say of course, but since you changed most of this in the last week or two, my money would be on #4. I have an acne issue too. Just to share my own experience, I started taking Green pastures fermented cod liver oil/butter oil blend, stopped using all cleansers and moisturizers on my face (not even soap, just water), and started using a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water (about 1:1 ratio) as a toner twice a day. After a couple weeks my skin was the clearest it had been in a couple years. I had a hard time figuring out which change had the most impact, but after keeping up the supplement and quitting the apple cider vinegar the acne came back, so I'm guessing it was the ACV. I'm assuming dietary changes would take a little longer to have an effect.
