So before I went paleo (2 months ago) I was a vegetarian for a year and a half, which led to all sorts of problems like acne, hair loss, unwanted weight loss, and gut/digestion issues. Eating paleo for two months now solved most of these issues, but I'm still getting a reaction to nuts. Prior to becoming a vegetarian I could handle nuts just fine (no acne or gut issues), but now when I eat a handful of nuts I get acne and cysts almost immediately (still no gut issues though, just acne). For example when I eat a tablespoon or two of almond butter I'll have about two cysts the next day and they'll subsequently go away when I stop eating nuts. I first thought it was a PUFA issue so I bought a bag of macadamia nuts, but alas after eating just 10 maca nuts, cysts again! What is going on? Before I turned vegetarian I ate handfuls of almonds, cashews, and walnuts daily with no problems and my skin was perfect. I suspect all the bread I ate for the 1 and 1/2 years I was vegetarian messed up my gut lining and contributed to acne/skin problems. Does my current reaction now to nuts signify that I still have gut issues? Please, hack!
