Glutathione and Acne

Answered on August 19, 2014

I already posted an acne question so I figured I would post another. According to spectracell my antioxidant function was low and my glutathione was very low. I have supplemented n-acetylcysteine for a week, have had pretty bad detox symptoms ( they are getting much better but still present). Still, however, my acne has not improved. I am happy taking it since I need it, but I am hoping for at least some skin improvement? Anybody have any counsel or experience in the area?

Pre NAC I'd only get a zit here or there based on my monthly cycle. I started NAC because I'd previously been a little mean to my liver between excess alcohol and Tylenol. NAC also prevents hangovers and from my own n=1 makes it easier to stop if you need too.

why were you taking NAC? for acne specifically? And to clarify you never had acne on your face, just on the back of your neck?

Why take Nac, a six month study at the Univ of Penn, proved oral Glutathione. Was absorbed and raised cell levels by 225 percent , at a dose of. 500mg and 1000 mg.I like to also mix Glutathione and Niacinamide together for topical application, I have observed wonderful health benefits from internal and topical use. I use Pharmaceutical grade Glutathione powder from a company, Talkinghetbals.com.

It took about 6 months for my acne to go away after I started NAC. I mostly got it on the back of my neck. Or I got the kind that doesn't form a head.

Are you sure it is acne or something else, such as perioral dermatitis, for example? How is your skin elsewhere on your body, all clear and healthy or dermatitis issues? I thought I had developed acne all of the sudden when I first started Paleo (I'm a 40+ year old woman who's never had acne) because I had a lot of small reddish bumps around my nose and mouth but it was the perioral dermatitis. I also had a lot of rashes and very dry skin all over my back and legs.

Anyway, I started to follow the autoimmune protocol per thepaleomom.com and my rashes are gone now after 3 weeks. I still have some blemishes on my face but it's much improved. I think if I can stay away from nuts and nightshades, my skin will completely heal within another month. Hope that helps.
