For those who cleared their acne with Paleo - How long did it take?

I have completely put my severe adult acne in remission once before with a strict paleo diet, however travelling in asia I fell off the wagon.

I am back on now though, strict 2 months, and my skin is noticably softer and I'm getting less inflamed breakouts.

Just wondering how long it takes everyone to get "completely" clear if they are 100% strict.

Last time I think it was 3 months or so but I was on an herbal supplement too so it is hard to tell. Thanks!

Most certainly not! I discovered that my acne triggers include fish/ocean foods, and one sushi dinner broke me out for nearly 4 months. Not cool. I find that my other trigger, dairy, is not as sensitive. I'll eat small amounts of milk chocolate, take *one* bite of cheese here and there, or other similar small cheats and have no problem. My third trigger is gluten, and I'm not testing that one yet.

Please explain Oysters and Liver. Why those specifically?

My skin is not perfect yet, but it took me 2 weeks to go from horrible skin to skin I was able to look at, and 2 more months to get to decent skin. I'll report back when my oysters get back in the mail. I should mention I don't have any active zits anymore, but I do still have inflammation that is very very hard to get rid of.

I definitely agree with oysters and liver (though I haven't been able to try oysters yet), but washing the face is unnecessary IMO.

Regular Oysters and Liver (daily even) should clear it up almost instantly.. active acne and future acne at least. Also washing the face with water is sound advice.

about 2-3 months of total clean paleo to clear acne on back, stomach, arms, face. (I still eat moderate carb, enjoy chocolate and the occasional paleofied dessert). 6 months to never see a pimple again.

I'm 48 years old and had acne from adolescence until I started paleo a bit over two years ago. I did not measure how long it took, but noticed a big drop off in acne within a couple of months.

The effects for me were pretty immediate (maybe within 2 weeks) and I had really bad acne plus acne scars. It was the first improvement my friends and I noticed when I started Paleo. That and I pretty much resorted to only washing my face with water and an Olay cream cleanser at night (I used to use a cleanser twice a day, plus toner, plus moisturizer!). At Thanksgiving, I had a piece of chocolate pie (a white flour and sugar bomb basically) and woke up the next morning with 4 new breakouts. Even 85% dark chocolate with a bit of sugar added to it makes me breakout (so I only eat 100% now). So yes, being very strict Paleo has definitely helped clear up my acne.

A quick note that might help. Seth Roberts talks about a deceptively simple solution: washing your face with water.

Within a month for me all the acne on my back had gone - from big red lumps across my shoulders and upper back to nothing. My face took a little longer to clear up and I'm still getting the occasional pimple, but I don't really mind them after what I had to put with before! - I permanently had huge red cysts on both my cheeks that just HURT constantly and wouldn't go down, and often ones around my mouth that looked a bit like I had cold-sores all the time.

Quite frankly my face looked a bit like a pizza - so its true, you are what you eat lol!

The dark shadows under my eyes are totally gone too :)

It took 2-3 months for me. Keep at it!

I think I saw an improvement in softness already after 2-3 weeks. For the 'visible' acne to disappear it was another 1-2 weeks. For me both things happened very quickly, especially after cutting oats in the morning.

Mine was noticably clearer within 4 weeks of starting paleo. Suffering bad from 3 years of cystic and hormonal acne. Very happy now.

Hi! Those of you that cleared can now eat anything you want (with moderation, of course)?
