Coffee And Acne

Hey Y'all.

I'm 18 years old and had acne since around age 14. Switching to a paleo diet a year ago and realizing some food intolerances has cleared it up about 85% maybe.

But I've noticed recently that when I start drinking coffee again (just one cup in the morning) for more than a day, my acne gets a lot worse. So I looked online and came across this:

http://www.skintactix.com/acne_tips/coffee_and_acne.html

Does it sound correct? Is it the caffeine in coffee that does it?

Chocolate doesn't make my skin breakout like this and it has caffeine as well. Why might that be?

Thanks!

yes, probably the high content of caffein that triggers acne. I started with paleo to get rid of acne. I had to quit drinking coffee because of the breakouts I get from it.

i always guessed coffee always flared up my acne because it fucked up my blood sugar and made me inflamed, so I was surprised to read that article. I am pretty sure its the caffeine because it revs up the adrenals which probably stimulate insulin production, which is whyyou get a boost, but in sensitive people its short lived and leads to hypoglycemia, which can lead to all kinds of things. chocolate has far less caffiene then coffee.

another thing I am super sensitive to that tends to flare up acne is the mineral copper, which coffee is often brewed through, it displaces things in the system such as zinc, which is great for healing the skin. coffee also tends to make you pee out other minerals and a bit hydrated if you don't pay attention which can lead to dry skin more prone to breakouts.

id say ditch the coffee, try some green or black teas instead, they sill have a bit of caffeine but definitely not as much as coffee. a great tea to try is "good earth" brand sweet and spicey tea, makes me forget about coffee!
