Are my Vitamin D levels causing my acne?

Hello!

I have trouble with acne and thought it could be down to low Vitamin D levels. (Just me self diagnosing me as usual)

I started supplementing with around 8000 iu per day last summer and have taken Vitamin D every day since and last months even Fermented Cod Liver Oil.

My first test was a two weeks ago and today my results came back.

74 nanomoles per liter.

A shame I didn't measure my Vitamin D levels when I started taking the supplements.

My acne haven't got much better, a bit perhaps but that could be other factors.

Is this a good level or should I reach to go higher? I usually feel great whenever I have been out on a sunny day.

How do I convert nanomoles per liter to the more frequent used on here ng/l? How much ng/l is 74 nmol/l?

I go about half and half; stings like a bitch but totally worth it. Make sure to put it on at night on a wet face so that the oil will have an easier time absorbing.

What kind of ratio of apple cider vinegar to extra virgin olive oil would you recommend?

Thanks! I suspect it. I have been Eating sauerkraut lots and lots of it since a few months ago and some Bone broth as well. Hope it Will recover! Only carbs I eat now is Brown rice.

I never found it necessary to stop supplementing before testing.

Your gut flora are likely shot after all the antibiotics. AVOID them in future & eat lots of fermented foods to help build up your healthy gut flora. If your gut flora aren't working, your immune system will overreact & you won't absorb all your food. Did you eat past in Italy? That's more likely to be the culprit.

Yes, tanning/sunbeds can work well. Do your research & make sure the beds are safe. You can take 2 caps a day for 3 months & then retest your level.

Thanks! Could it be one factor for my skin problems? Don't get much sunlight living in Scandinavia. Can I get Vitamin D from sunbeds? Never tried one but heard it works good sometimes for acne. I take both Fermented Cod Liver Oil (One teaspoon a day) and Now Foods oil based Vitamin D 5000iu (one capsule a day) Should I increase it? Perhaps take two capsules and one teaspoon CLO daily?

That's a bit low. Aim for a blood level of 125-150 nmol/L. (50-60 ng/ml)

CLO is not an ideal source of D, since the ratio of A to D can be 10 to 1 or more. Take a separate oil-based D supplement, if you can't get enough sun.

Taking Vit D is great and all, but what I found to really clear up my acne was taking Beta-Carotene supplements (like 75,000 to 100,000IU) Also, If your really concerned about acne, stop washing your face with chemicals and start moisturising at night with a mix of apple cider vinegar (which will sting) and real extra virgin olive oil.

Are you dairy free. You really need to be if your having allot of trouble.don't know if vitamin d deficiency would cause acne.

Just wanted to add this odd thing.

In october 2010 I started a six months long course of Accutane (now I now better), in the last week all my acne had dissapeared. This was in the end of april.

Then I went to Sicily in the beginning of june, was down the beach and got a bit burned. Not much but yeh the sun burned my skin a bit. I got one pimple and thought not much of it..I can handle one pimple. Then the following days acne started appearing again. Only one month after I had finished Accutane. Devastating.

Now it's been a year since and I am still breaking out daily, not as much as I did last summer but I get very self consious about it.

Was it just a coincidence that my acne started appearing after a few days in warm hot Italy?

I'm photosensitive after numerous rounds of antibiotics for Acne. I get a flush when I concentrate and sitting by the computer/mobile/Ipad/TV.

Sorry for just typing what I think. Hope you can help me.
