What's up with 23andme now that the FDA screwed it up as it always does?

I avoided getting a 23andme DNA sequence due to trying to figure out logistics of the NY state restriction, and of course the FDA stepped in and shut down the health stuff.

If I get a 23andme scan now, will I be able to download the full details of my sequence, such that it can be analyzed elsewhere for health related genes? If so, what sites/software provide such, even if they are outside the USA?

(hope this isn't too offtopic)

And unbelievably, they still can't accept kits shipped from NY, despite removing the health interpretation option. Wow - f****ing agencies!

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look, however, I welcome what other folks might call "overload" - the more detail the better.

Ok, so if I get the panel, will it say whether or not for example I have the MTHFR gene as [homo|hetero]zygous, and other well known genes, for example, or is it something like a 4GB download of ATGGGCCCAAA strings?

FDA is outta control. I hope 23andme opens up offshore and re-opens. If not someone will fill the market need. Government doesnt trust people with information. Pathetic.

Also www.nutrahacker.com provides excellent nutritional analysis via a report. Has a strong list of studied polymorphisms that affect nutritional requirements, and doesn't overload you with information like Promethease.

You can download your raw data into Promethease and get back a TON of info. I'm not very tech savvy and it only took me a few minutes to figure out how to do it.

FDA asked for documentation showing that what 23andMe was claiming could be backed up with science. 23andMe figured that they could just wait out the FDA, and rather than supply evidence claim that their site was not diagnosing genetic conditions, thus not covered by the FDA.

Turns out 23andMe was wrong on both accounts.

I also believe that the FDA over-stepped their bounds, but unless 23andMe wants to go to court we will never find out.

What you can get now is a full panel, without and interpretation of the results. If you doctor is competent, you can go over the results with him/her (might cost you more than the test).
