Where can I find a personal trainer?

I want to hire a personal trainer who is at least CF level 1 certified and understands Paleo diet principles. I've been trying to lose those same 10 pounds forever and I'm finally ready to enlist a professional. Many people suggest I go to a Crossfit gym, but the problem is I am military and am required to do PT 5X a week with my command. I don't want to pay $150+ for a membership at a CF gym, because then I will be obligated to go to get my moneys worth and end up overtraining. I want someone to meet up with in my area once per week, maybe do some lifting (I'm nervous about lifting alone in the gym) or focus on other weaknesses I have, track my progress, and look over my food log and make tweaks if necessary.

Where can I find someone that's legit? I thought about posting on Craigslist, but I'm afriad I might get scammed by someone unqaulified to train me. Does anybody have suggestions on where else I can look? I live in Columbia, MD near Fort Meade...if anybody on here is from that area and can make a personal referral that would be awesome. Thanks ahead of time for the help!

Stand on the corner of any Starbucks: throw a rock. Whoever it hits is your next personal trainer!

I would contact your local CF box and see what their rates for personal training are. Any good box will have 1-on-1 training available, and they should also have options for less than 5x/week packages. My box offers anywhere from once a week, to five times per week. Once a week at our box is $75/month. We also offer private training, and small group privates as well. I'm in Brooklyn, so not helpful to you, but any good box should have options for you.

Thank you all for your answers. I contacted two of my local boxes and hope to hear back soon. Hopefully I find someone soon. It's not that I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing...it's that sometimes you need someone else to kick your ass and hold you accountable. Especially when you're like me and stuck trying to get rid of that last 5-10lbs. Sometmies it's best to enlist professional help.

Also, already own Paleo Solution. And several other paleo books. And an avid listener to the Paleo Soultion podcast and subscriber to many paleo blogs. Of course Ive checked out the Crossfit website. How else would I have made my way to the amazing community of Paleohacks? :)

Thanks again everyone!

Read "the Paleo Solution" which will cost you $15 and then do the workouts off the main site Crossfit.com If you want to go balls out, get level 1 certified.

Can you coach yourself, assuming you have access to fitness tools? Coach Rut's website has a very smart daily workout (as does the CF site of course) for free.

I'd suggest doing a search on Crossfit gyms in and around your area.. go on their websites and check out the trainers there. As someone who has been doing CrossFit for over two years I can attest to the fact that it is quite possibly the best training system out there. Having said that, being Level 1 certified in itself does not a personal trainer make. I've been lucky to have coaches who have been involved in the fitness industry all their lives. So check the trainer profiles and contact them to see if they would spare a day or so from their gym schedule. I'm sure they would even be willing to give you a military discount considering the fact that you are the among the group of people that we respect the most. :) 3..2..1.. GO!

Often CF gyms have programs where you can pay by the class or get personal training there. Call your local CF affiliates and let them know what you are looking for, I'm sure they'll help you out!
