Coconut water

I would like some recommendations for a good coconut water. I was at Walmart and found a few. I purchased Zico and One Coconut Water. I have tried the Zico and it is okay. I have not tried the other yet. I am not sure what coconut water is supposed to taste like so have nothing to compare to. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

At my local grocery store, that's the main brand they sell. For coconuts, I have to make the trip out to whole foods, where they're a little pricey. The young ones usually have the odd conical tops like so: http://i.imgur.com/ORT3ihY.jpg You have to sort of machete your way into them.

The kefir is pretty awesome. The culture does well with supplemental minerals, where the weekly coconut water really keeps it thriving. (Trillions of microorganisms.) It lowers the sugar content of the coconut water (which is already fairly low), then adds carbonation and body. Kicks it up.

Where do you find this coco libre brand? I rarely see coconuts in the stores here. I wouldn't know if it is young or not! Thank you for your input. What exactly does the kefir do for the water?

I like to buy 4x young coconuts at a time. I run a liter once a week or so through water kefir grains for a short 12-24hr cycle, then cork and refrigerate for 3-4 days before it's ready (with organic cane sugar batches between ferments.) After I pour the water out of the coconut, I scoop out the meat. Throw some garlic powder / sea salt on that and dehydrate it up and you've got some awesome chips (or eat it raw / blend it up smoothie style.)

The organic coco libre brand isn't bad. Reminds me of cereal milk.
