I'm seventeen years old, about a year and a half ago my mom introduced my family to the Paleo lifestyle. As of recently-- like 5 months-- I started swimming competitively again and work out for about an hour and a half non-stop at least 3-5 days a... (more)
I am a swimmer. I swim about 8 times a week and our workouts are 2.5-1.5 hours. What foods should I eat before practice? What about the first 30 minutes after I workout?
So i've been looking for a way to drop the last 15 lbs. I started running 2years ago and lost over 30 lbs, but I want to drop 15 more by my first half IronMan. I know the paleo is all about reducing carb intake, but I want to know how that would... (more)
Is the lack of complex carbohydrates in eating Paleo the reason why people advocate against "chronic cardio" or is it because they believe it to be detrimental? What is so bad about "chronic cardio" like distance swimming? Will I find difficulty... (more)
We dislike chronic cardio, ie long distance running, and it makes sense when we look at a sprinter's body vs. a marathon runner's body. My question is, does this also hold for swimmers? Michael Phelps swims 6 hrs a day 6 days a week and trains for... (more)
Ive been a swimmer all of my life and never had any skin problems as a result of swimming. Over the last few months though, every time I get out of a pool or shower, my arms and legs itch uncontrollably. I've looked it up and it is called... (more)
When i'm not fasting, I typically do Cardio w/HIIT + weights. While fasting 48 hr +, I'm wondering if its better to just do light cardio (e.g., swimming w/o sprints) or strength training? I'm thinking that my usual workout of both cardio and... (more)
What do no-shampoo folks do after swimming in a chlorine-laden lap pool? Just rinsing with water doesn't seem to do the trick in my hair - but battling back the chlorine with the chemicals in my shampoo seems like a poor option as well. I love... (more)
I swam in college. The girls on the team used to do this: Get your hair wet with regular water in the shower, and then put a cap on before you get in. I don't know how it works but apparently it does
I recently moved and my new place has a community swimming pool and spa. I have been thinking of adding swimming to my exercise regimen. I also love going in the spa to relax. I'm assuming that the chemicals used to clean the pool / spa are not... (more)
I grew up swimming and really miss it. Unfortunately, as a competitive swimmer, I had terrible asthma that abated when I quit. Given the link between pool chemicals and asthma, I'm not very interested in swimming in traditional pools. Do any of... (more)
Anyone here use to swim competitively? I'm interested in the body composition of ex swimmers. Is swimming the best cardio that works for you? What percent body fat do you have? I'm interested because I swam and played water polo competitively... (more)
As per many of the other recommendations, doing some HIIT and sprinting once or twice per week will help shed the fat without you loosing your butt. As to the arms, just keep the reps high and your muscles will tone but not grow much if any. ... (more)
I'm 25 and just joned an adult swim team a few weeks back. BCAAs alone before are not enough to get me through the workout without dying. I'm not a breakfast guy and all my practices are in the morning. Should I take a whey protein shake before... (more)
I posted this question as a comment in an earlier thread (about adding swimming to the workout routine), but it seems like people won't see that comment due to inactivity so I thought I'd repost it as its own thread: I am very comfortable in the... (more)
I don't currently have access to a gym, but I do have access to my community pool. Does anybody out there have swimming as a staple in their exercise routines? If so, how are you using it to your advantage? Sprints? Long sets of continuous low... (more)
