I'm 25 and just joned an adult swim team a few weeks back. BCAAs alone before are not enough to get me through the workout without dying. I'm not a breakfast guy and all my practices are in the morning.
Should I take a whey protein shake before practice? What about making some diluted gatorade from the powder to drink during? I run out of gas fairly quick, no endurance.
I'm not strict paleo, I'm more primal but again not strict.
Just looking for friendly tips and suggestions.

I can get through an hour on just a hard boiled egg prior to working out. If you need carbs and want to be somewhat Paleo, you can do something like a drink of coconut water and pineapple juice (keep on the side of the pool to sip on) or a pre or mid-workout of applesauce or baby food (both can be found in little squeeze packets like gels).
I wouldn't drink a protein shake right before swimming, you'll most likely get a stomach cramp. Are you dying because you are hungry or dying because you have no energy? I used to swim/play water polo for 2 hours at 5:45 AM every morning and would only eat a little thing of apple sauce and be fine. I usually otherwise eat a moderate breakfast
